Vietnam- Cambodia Mission Team-Update #1
Dear ALWM mission team prayer partners,
Bella Haveman, Katherine Eppley, and Alan Dorfmeyer arrived safely in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam late Wednesday May 28, joining Pastor Bill and Sally for a few weeks of ministry in SE Asia, starting in Vietnam! All the supplies we need for the medical / evangelism outreach this weekend and the English Bible Camp next week in Cambodia made it as well. Thanks be to God!
When you travel over 26 hours and are 10-12 time zones away from home, jet lag is real. We had to build in time for coffee!
But everyone is doing well with decent sleep, and we met for our first in person team meeting first thing Thursday!
A highlight that morning was having Pastor Sam Chim and Pastor Tor Heuon from Cambodia join us in Ho Chi Minh City! They met us to pick up all of our supplies and a new video projector for the English Bible Camp June 5-7. We also heard first hand about their fruitful ministries in both countries, and were able to talk and pray together about the new outreach at the ALWM Mission school.
We had lunch at a local Pho restaurant, and had our first “crosswalks and motorbikes” 101- how to walk safely across the crowded streets! It’s always safe, and an adrenaline rush, too!
Thursday evening we met for a wonderful evening of dinner and fellowship with 7 students in our E-Learning Friendship English Conversation Ministry (EFEC). Nurses and other medical professionals here in Vietnam are paired with a “teacher” from the US. They meet together regularly via zoom / video for English conversation and often a true cross cultural friendship develops too!
Today we traveled to Nha Trang, a coastal city that is about 30 minutes east of our Saturday medical / evangelism outreach at Khanh Vinh Church! The 9 hour trip included a stop at a Vietnamese “Buc-ee’s”, a large gas station, outdoor “mini mall” and food court along the way!
