Vietnam- Cambodia Mission Team - Update #2
Dear prayer partners, friends, and family,
As I write, it’s noon Sunday, June 1 and we are just beginning our 7 hour drive back to Ho Chi Minh City ( we hope that Sunday night travel is a little less congested!) We’ve had a full and fruitful 2 days!
Saturday morning we arrived at Khanh Vinh Church where 150+ children were awaiting our arrival! (See Below)
What’s the back story here? Our ALWM medical / evangelism ministry in Vietnam is known as Vital Links. Under the leadership of Dr. Hang Nguyen and her husband Mr Hai, ALWM’s Vital Links has provided medical outreach ministry to poor rural churches for 20 years. Staffed entirely by volunteers plus a paid PT project manager, ALWM provides the funds for all the ministry from faithful donors who support our work in Vietnam. Yesterday more than 400 people came to Khanh Vinh Church, 250+ miles north of Ho Chi Minh City. Often from 30-40km away, they come to receive free medical care.
What happens at one of these medical outreach events? People of all ages receive a check up, medicine when needed, dental instructions and supplies, nutrition assistance, reading glasses and much more at events like this through the year. The church leaders build relationships and share the love of Christ during the outreach. They then follow up personally in the weeks and months afterward! Vietnamese pastors have confirmed that these are always their most effective evangelistic events.
Here are two links from our Facebook live events from the outreach Saturday:

When our short term mission team is here, we assist with reading glasses, and then add ministry for the children that they aren’t able to provide the rest of the year! We joined Dr Hang’s volunteer team of doctors, nurses and pharmacists at Khanh Vinh Church.
Bella, Katherine, and Alan are all hard workers eager to serve, so what a blessing! Sally is an outreach veteran and wears a lot of hats, too. It’s not an overstatement to say that we each had an unforgettable day! There were lots of smiles, hugs, and laughter all around:). Everyone handled the heat and humidity very well!
Saturday afternoon we visited several rural, isolated churches within an hour or so radius of Khanh Vinh Church. One was a recipient of one of our “Clean Water / Living Water” Ministry filtering systems, others need one! These each serve the church and the local community! Please pray with us for God’s provision!
Sunday morning we worshipped at a local ALWM partner church in Nha Trang. Afterward we visited a local public school, the site of ongoing community ministry by this congregation. In 2020, through the generosity of Living Word Lutheran (Milbank, SD) we provided some water filtration systems for a few area churches, and one for this school. Clean water is hard to come by even in this part of Nha Trang.
Leaders there discovered that more filtration capacity is needed to provide enough water for the 410+ students grades 1-5 that attend here. The school principal welcomed us, and is clearly very open to additional ministry from the church!
We have been asked to provide funding for two more water filtration systems (like the one pictured here) for the school, and another for the small church planted in the community near the school. The verse on the front is from John 4:13-14.
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with this church to help them serve the school in Jesus’ name!
Please pray with us for God’s provision of the $1200 estimated for each system!
A highlight tomorrow will be an afternoon visit with Dr Hang, Mr Hai and their Gospel House “orphanage”! They personally raise 14 of the our Gospel House kids, most rescued from abortion by the pro life ministry of Dr Hang and her team.
Thank you for your prayers for the team and the ministry ahead.
On behalf of the team,
Bill
