Vietnam- Cambodia Mission Team - Update #5
Dear prayer supporters. family, and friends,
It’s Monday, June 9 here in Phnom Penh, about 5 hours south of Preah Vihear, where we spent much of the week. Sunday morning we worshipped at one of our partner churches near the school. (Above) Though in many ways. was very different than a church in the US, a small wood frame building providing shade for some gathering space underneath. The sermon was in English with translation, and of course the rest was in Khmer. But the Spirit of God drew us together despite the language barrier! We were warmly welcomed!
After a light lunch we boarded a small van for the trip to Phnom Penh. The international airport here is our gateway for our journey home. We all fly out Monday night local time: Sally and I around 7, with the team on the way by midnight.
This morning Sally and I caught up on some work, while Bella, Katherine, and Alan went with Pastor Sam to the Killing Fields Museum, followed by the S21 Museum. (Below) Sally and I have been to each twice before so we met them afterward.
These museums chronicle the deadly genocide under Pol Pot from 1975-1979, which was followed by civil war and instability that continued until 1998. Part of doing ministry here is taking time to understand this heart wrenching shared history of the Cambodian people. Books and subsequent movies like The Killing Fields and First They Killed My Father are also a way to understand this country, and why prayer and preaching the Gospel are so essential.
We also took some time to debrief and spend time with Pastor Sam before parted.
Please pray for safe travel back home! Please also pray for the Lord to water the seeds planted in our work along side Pastor Sam and his team.
Pray with us also for the seeds of growth and change He is stirring in our lives as a result of this trip!
