Vital Links

We have our own ministry in Vietnam called "Vital Links for Humanity". Vital Links was originally founded by two Lutheran nurses, Tom & Carol Miles, in 1995. VLH became a part of ALWM in 2018. This fruitful and unique ministry includes:

  • Medical / Evangelism Outreach Clinics: Our team of volunteer doctors, nurses and pharmacists led by Dr. Hang and our Project Manager Van provide medical outreach clinics in poor rural areas through the year. The clinics are held on weekends in ALWM partner churches who serve in Jesus’ name those with little access to medical care. We work in the Mekong River Delta in southern Vietnam, as well as among the Hill tribes in the northwest near the Cambodia Border, and also the region in and near Nha Trang, and the local leper colony there. We work in partnership with key churches in each region who host the outreach, building relationships in order to share the Gospel.

  • Gospel House Kids orphan ministry: Vietnam has the highest abortion rate in Asia, with as many as 58% of pregnancies ending in abortion. Our Gospel Kids orphanages have grown out of the passionate prolife work of our staff leader, Dr. Hang. Since 2005, Dr Hang and our team of 5 other volunteers has seen nearly 300 women choose life, and about 10% of those have been abandoned by their mothers and left with VL to raise. There are now about 40 Gospel Kids in 4 locations. Almost all of the orphans were rescued from abortion! Thanks be to God!

  • Clean Water / Living Water $700-1000 builds a new well &/or water filtration system for a partner church, providing clean water to hundreds weekly in the church and community.

  • Building on nearly two decades of relationship with the medical community in HCMC, we have worked in formal partnership with the University School of Nursing since 2008. We utilize volunteer medical professionals to offer training events, now at the request of the Vietnamese Nurses Association in Ho Chi Minh City. In addition, we work in partnership with VNA and local hospitals in HCMC to offer "Conversational English for the Nurse" workshops, with the help of our summer short term teams. Our EFEC (E-Learning Friendship English Conversation) ministry serves Vietnamese nurses and other medical professionals through weekly conversation via messenger, face time, etc with English speakers, most from the US. We are in need of more volunteers! We provide training and support for this simple cross cultural ministry opportunity.

For more about how you can partner with us through giving, serving on a short-term mission team to Vietnam, or becoming an EFEC Volunteer, contact us at vitallinks@alwm.org.
